TEF Canada (Test d’Évaluation de Français) is an official, computer-based test that certifies your French language skills. The test has been recognized by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) since 2002.
Who should consider TEF Canada exam?
Individuals who need to demonstrate their French proficiency for Canadian immigration or Canadian citizenship applications submitted to IRCC.

For an immigration application to Canada, you must take 4 tests:
Reading comprehension:
Objective: Measure your ability to read and understand written documents.
Content: 40 questions
Duration: 1 hour
Listening comprehension:
Objective: Measure your ability to understand spoken French by listening to audio documents.
Content: 40 questions
Duration: 1 hour
Written expression:
Objective: Measure your ability to express yourself in written French
Content: 2 sections
Duration: 1 hour
Format: The test is divided into two sections, A and B.
Section A – 25 minutes
Write the continuation of an article (80 words minimum)
Section B – 35 minutes
Express and justify a point of view (200 words minimum)
Oral expression:
Objective: Measure your ability to communicate orally with an interlocutor.
Content: 2 sections
Duration: 15 minutes in total
Format: The test is divided into two sections, A and B.
Section A – 5 minutes

The TEF Canada sessions are organised throughout the year. Alliance Française d’Ahmedabad is an authorised centre to organise these sessions in line with the administering body Paris Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIP).
- Registrations are accepted on first-come first-served basis, subject to seat availability.
- A seat is confirmed only after successful payment.
- Once registered, no refund requests will be accepted
- Subject to seat availability, registration and exam dates will be regularly updated on our Instagram handle and the website.

You will receive an e-mail with a link to an online digital safe (no paper certificate will be issued) within 10 to 15 business days after the test date. Please consider the time period necessary to receive the certificate if you’re applying for a school admission or an immigration process.
