After having studied in France and Germany and worked with an Indian NGO, Mr. Lachaier did his PhD. in Social Anthropology. He is Membre of Centre for India and South Asian Studies (CEIAS, Paris) and worked as the researcher at the Pondicherry centre during 1995-2001. Since then in Paris, he continues to pursue his research work on the trading networks of India, particularly in Gujarat, but also in France and Portugal. With a few colleagues, he founded in 2004 a group working on the Gujarati and Sindhi studies (Society, Language and Culture).
Besides working on his own researches in the city and engage with various scholars in Gujarat, Pierre Lachaier will interact on 2 occasions at the Alliance Française d’Ahmedabad. It will be the occasion to discuss about social sciences in the context of Ahmedabad today, but also about Ethno- Architecture.
The second occasion to meet Mr.Lachaier is on Tuesday, 4th February at 7 pm in the French Gallery. The event is open for all, on first come first served basis.
