Energetic, original, and unshakable Nabwana Isaac Godfrey Geoffrey aka ICG from Kampala slum of Wakaliga, placed Uganda on the world map of cinema by shooting action comedies stuffed with car chases, helicopter raids , Kung Fu , special effects , haemoglobin geysers and explosions , all this for less than $ 200 without any major technical support and staff all by handcrafting everything from the equipment to the costumes and accessories.
The first Ugandan action film, “Who Killed Captain Alex?,” had a viral teaser in 2010 that motivated an American, Alan Hofmanis to move to Wakaliga and develop the studio.Eventually he created a marketing label called “Wakaliwood”, which was derived from the name of the neighbourhood.
While ICG was shooting his films, Frédéric NOY, a French photographer spent almost 3 years in the alleys of Wakaliga where he documented Wakaliwood.
Alliance Française d’Ahmedabad will inaugurate the exhibition “Wakaliwood” based on Behind the scenes of the movie on 21st April at 6 pm at the French Gallery.
The exhibition is open for all between 22nd and 7th May.
