Equality! Liberty! Sexuality! – The young William Wordsworth wrote the above lines about a much bloodier French revolution. They express perfectly, all the same, the mood of May 1968: the idealism, the whimsy, the zeal, the humour, the self-righteousness, the excitement. Come explore an exhibition celebrating the 50 years of the famous movement. The movement which almost brought down the government. The protests spurred an artistic movement,
with songs, imaginative graffiti, posters, and slogans. It wasn’t a successful political movement but rather social. As we look back 50 years today, it significantly changed the course of the French society and made it what it is today.
This is an occasion to collectively reflect on many student and social protests across the globe in that era, from US, Europe, to India with the famous Navnirman Movement in the 70s. And it is also a chance to elaborate the role of youth and students in building a country, especially ours.
